Abbot Point Operations is throwing its support behind Bowen Flexi Care by sponsoring a new community-based transport service.
Bowen Flexi Care Acting General Manager, Elise Woodhouse, said the generous donation would go towards purchasing a community transport van with wheelchair modifications.
“We recently identified a real need for reliable, accessible and affordable transport for local people with disabilities, and other community members with mobility challenges and with special needs, to get to appointments locally and in Townsville or Mackay,” Ms Woodhouse said.
“Bowen Flexi Care supports more than 100 people in our community and we are very grateful for the support from Abbot Point Operations in turn to help us improve our service and meet a community need.”
Abbot Point Operations General Manager, Allan Brown, said that supporting local community groups like Bowen Flexi Care was part of its mission to focus on education, health, community wellbeing and youth opportunities.
“Bowen Flexi Care is embedded in the local community and we are very keen to get behind organisations in Bowen that deliver critical services like this new community transport initiative.” Mr Brown said.
“Access to transport is something that so many of us take for granted. We are pleased to participate in this initiative which will help to improve people’s quality of life and provide an increased level of independence.
“We see great value in the work that Bowen Flexi Care delivers and we are proud to be their partner in making this new transport initiative become a reality for our community.”
Abbot Point Operations’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program provides significant funding each year to community groups, organisations and initiatives in the Whitsunday Regional Council communities of Bowen and Collinsville. Since 2017, more than $1.2 million has been awarded to various community groups under the program.
